It features intricate engravings that include names, a reference to the salvage ship "Claymore," and details about its recovery from the bullion room of the ship - R.M.S. Niagara. The text notes that the ship sank in 438 feet of water near the entrance to the Hauraki Gulf, New Zealand. The smooth, reflective surface of the bowl contrasts with the detailed etchings, emphasizing its historical significance. It is slightly discoloured and tarnished in places.

The inscription reads 'Presented to G.M Shain by J.P Williams Salvage Ship "Claymore". This plate was recovered from the bullion room R.M.S Niagara sunk in 438 feet of water at the entrance to the Hauraki Gulf N.Z'
