S-a-1324 — Routing/status fragment
This file contains sundry cables exchanged in 1941 between Australian authorities and the Bank of England concerning the Niagara salvage. The records include financial communications relating to credits from London, transfers to Australian branches, reimbursements, and accounting matters. Operational reports from Captain J. P. Williams document blasting through A, B, and C decks, debris clearance, and preparations to access the bullion room while minimising damage to the wreck. The correspondence also records delays caused by winter weather and reduced daylight hours, along with draft replies, censorship measures, press-control concerns, and internal commentary. Together, the cables demonstrate the integration of financial administration, operational reporting, and communications management throughout the salvage operation.
