Oral History interview with Dr Guy Debelle, who had a 28 year association with the Reserve Bank of Australia including his final five years as Deputy Governor.
Dr Debelle worked in the Research Department from 1994 to 1995, before working overseas at the IMF in Washington DC and returning to the Bank in 1997. From 1998 to 2003 he served as Deputy Head and later Head of the Economic Analysis Department before he worked overseas on sabbatical from 2003 to 2004. Dr Debelle was promoted to Head of the International Department in 2004, to Assistant Governor (Financial Markets) in 2007, and served as Deputy Governor from 2016 to 2022.
Dr Debelle also worked at the Treasury, the Bank for International Settlements in Switzerland, and at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He holds a Bachelor of Economics with Honours from the University of Adelaide and a PhD in Economics from MIT.
