Parent Series Index: Reserve Bank Branches
Records relating to branches of the Reserve Bank of Australia that were established after the central bank commenced operation on 14 January 1960. At this time the Reserve Bank established a branch in every State of Australia to undertake central banking functions within that State. The Bank also continued to manage the note printing in Melbourne, which later became a fully owned subsidiary of the Reserve Bank as Note Printing Australia (NPA). In addition the Bank had a presence in Papua New Guinea until 1973 when the central banking functions and premises were handed over to the Bank of Papua New Guinea.
State branches of the Reserve Bank were progressively closed between 1997 and 2003. State Representative Offices replaced the branches with the exception of Canberra which continues to operate as a branch.
Each series contains the records produced by a particular branch of the Reserve Bank during the course of their work.
