The Reserve Bank of Australia is required to comply with the provisions of the Archives Act 1983 and makes its records available to the public 20 years from the date of their creation, with provision for release after 15 years at the Bank’s discretion.
As not all of the Bank’s records are currently available in Unreserved, you may wish to contact the Archivist for advice on other holdings. When doing so, please provide as much information as possible regarding your research enquiry, including dates, names of people, or specific topics in which you are interested. The Archivist will assess if any records of relevance are available for public access.
In addition to digital records in Unreserved, there is a dedicated Research Room at the Bank’s Head Office building in Sydney where physical records can be viewed. All visits are by appointment only. Should you be unable to visit the Archives in person, it may be possible to arrange for the relevant physical records to be digitised and sent to you electronically.
